Try giving simple fruit purees like banana and apple puree. Once she starts taking a teaspoon or so, then gradually increase the amount.

Hello, Wanted to check if I can give Atta halwa for my little one, she is 7 1/2 months old. I tried it out once with applesauce. But It does constipate her a little bit. Should I postpone it to the next month.? I can see that it is one your weaning recipes for 6-9 month old babies. And I do like your site, amazing how you actually realize and understand that as mothers we would like to learn even basic recipes like dal paani. We know how to make it but then it is reassuring to have a second opinion(especially for a first time mom like me) and also learn quick/easy ways to prepare all this stuff. Thanks so much! You are my goto person for everything under the sun when it comes to my baby!

Hi Uma, Thanks for your kind words!! Your encouraging words keep us motivated! I perhaps realize what first time mums need because I have gone through the same grind raising my daughter who is now 5 years old. 🙂
Coming back to your question, try giving the halwa without the applesauce. Applesauce can constipate some babies. You may try giving it with a little banana or plain. If you still feel he is getting constipated, feel free to postpone. Every baby is different and you know your baby better than any guidelines. 🙂

Hi Priya …my son is six months old. Have started solid food and have tried many recipes from your site. He doesn’t like khicdi or veggie soup without salt. Many days I kept trying mentioned food without salt but he didn’t eat and just to try it out added a pinch of salt to it and he had it at least. So is it okay if I continue with a pinch of salt?

    Thank you!

Thank u shishuworld for guiding me various variety of recepies for my 9 month old baby, I need your kind suggestion regarding my baby meal he is now 9 months old but don’t take khichdi or thick consistency foods n if I try he vomit out all. He is still on puree type meal n I am feeding suji banana kheer but so runny, milk n blended banana, milk with blended biscuits I m so worried babies of his age taking khichdi mashed potatoes etc but he can’t all his reports are cleared no reflux problem. Should I give him some time or try again and again to feed him veggies soups n khichdi? Kindly guide me

    1. Priya Sachan says:

      Hi Sheena,

I can understand your anxiety, but babies develop at different pace, so no point comparing with others. Good thing is your baby doesn’t have any underlying problem. So, give him some more time. Gradually thicken his food like when you give sufi banana kheer, mash 1 tsp banana instead of pureeing it and mix with remaining puree. It will not be as offensive as giving complete solid food. If he takes that then do the same with other foods like khichdi. You can also mash khichdi or puree it so that he becomes used to the savoury taste. Hope it helps! Feel free to write again and let us know how he is progressing.

It is ok to not give or delay dal ka pani in case you feel it is causing gas. Give what know suits him. Wait for a couple of weeks and then start 3 meals a day.

When it is safe and advisable to give her other dals apart from toor? should we soak daal well before we cook it? or should we add any hing or jeera? please post your ideas?
