Sweetcorn soup for babies & kids -Corn is a very healthy vegetable and its sweet taste is often appealing babies and kids. Sweetcorn is readily available in markets these days and can be served in many different ways to keep it interesting. When I introduced sweetcorn to my child, she enjoyed it and I could add any number of vegetable to it too.

- Sweetcorn also provides magnesium and potassium, which plays an important role in muscle and bone health.
Sweetcorn Soup for Babies (8 months+)
This sweetcorn and carrot soup is simple to make and is full of nutrients. A bowl of this soup with a little bread or rice is a complete meal for kids in itself.
Ingredients
1 sweetcorn on the cob
1 carrot
1 tbsp butter
Pepper to taste
Recipe
Clean the sweetcorn and cut the sweet corn into halves.
Peel and clean the carrot.
In a pressure cooker or steamer, steam sweetcorn and carrot till 3 whistles or till well cooked.
Let them cool down.
Using a knife, take out the corn kernels from the cob.
Cut the carrot into pieces.
Put all these in a blender and blend to a fine puree. You can water to make it as fine as possible.
If you want, you can strain this puree.
In a pan, heat the butter.
When the butter melts, add the sweetcorn and carrot puree and mix well.
Bring it to boil on medium heat while stirring continuously.
Add pepper to taste.
We are not adding salt to this as we are making this for babies below 1 year. If your baby has started taking salt, you may add salt to taste.
Sweetcorn Soup for Kids (1 Year+)
This sweetcorn soup is simple to make and is full of nutrients. This soup can be made for kidsabove 1 year when they are ready to explore more flavours.You can even give this soup to below 1 year babies, if you omit salt.
Ingredients
1 sweetcorn on the cob
1 tbsp butter
1 small onion – chopped finely
1 clove of garlic – chopped finely
1 cup water
1/2 cup of milk (optional)
Salt Pepper to taste
Fresh herbs like spring onions greens and coriander leaves for garnish
Recipe
Clean the sweetcorn and cut the sweet corn into halves.
In a pressure cooker or steamer, steam sweetcorn till 3 whistles or till well cooked.
Let them cool down.
Using a knife, take out the corn kernels from the cob.
Put the corn kernel in a blender and blend to a fine puree. You can water to make it as fine as possible. Save a quarter of the corn kernels for texture.
In a pan, heat the butter.
When the butter melts, add the garlic and onion and saute till transparent.
Add the sweet corn puree and mix well.
Add the warm milk gradually while stirring so it does not split. You may add water instead of milk too.
Add a 1 cup of water to thin the soup.
Once it comes to boil, add the saved corn kernels. Bring it to boil on medium heat while stirring continuously.
Simmer this soup for 5 minutes, while stirring.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Garnish with chopped spring onion greens and coriander leaves as per your taste.
Serve this soup hot or warm with a garlic bread on the side.
This sweetcorn soup is a wonderful filling meal for a child and a good starter for older kids too.
Tips for Sweetcorn Soup for Babies:
- You may introduce sweetcorn soup to baby as early as 8-9 months.
- Make sure you make a fine puree of sweetcorn soup initially and give only small amounts at first.
- You may add more vegetables like pumpkin, potatoes, beans etc. to this soup too.
