Today, September 29, 2016, is World Heart Day! So, a couple of days ago, I came to know of this initiative by Fortis Bangalore encouraging people to be more mindful about their health and take care of their heart. Since, this is anyway very close to my heart, I was happy to be associated.
I look at this pledge as a woman and as a mother. Women specially once they become mothers tend to over expect from themselves along with everyone else. We want to have the perfect home, perfect kids and also pursue our professional interests. The one thing that often takes a back seat is our own health.
Studies show that the incidences of heart problems in women have been on an increase. It is because of the hectic and exhausting lifestyles that we lead.
So, this World Health Day, let us all take a pledge to lead a healthier life by taking little steps everyday. Here are somethings that I already do:
- Use less oil in cooking
- Avoid sugar and sugary food
- Avoid colas and soft drinks
- Reduce use of packaged food
- Exercise at least 4-5 days a week.
Here are some ways in which I want to improve myself:
- Eat dinner on time – We tend to have dinner quite late, close to 10 pm. I want to gradually bring it to 8 o’clock.
- Take at least 8 hours of sleep
- Eat out less
I have shared my pledge on our Facebook page
